What the strategy means for
families and children

Families and children in West Wales should be able to access services quickly, easily, and regardless of where they live.

Families and children will meet staff who are thriving in their role and ready to support them

  • Services should be well staffed, with plans in place for recruitment
  • Staff should be well trained, and well managed. We want them to feel motivated and satisfied in their jobs
  • Staff should be able to access family records whenever they need to. Information needs to be secure, but accessible

Families and children will have access to support at the earliest opportunity

  • Every family should be offered support early in pregnancy
  • Services should be advertised to families, they should not need to go looking
  • Professionals will have access to up-to-date information about specialist services available, and help children with additional needs access them

Services should be joined up and easy to access

  • Some services may be reorganised to make them more accessible for families, for example by bringing them together in once place
  • Children with additional needs will be connected to multi-agency teams
  • Families should be able to access the most convenient service, even if it is provided by another council

Families should not have to think about the system

  • Families should not have to tell their stories more than once – this means making sure professionals in different services have access to the same information
  • Records should follow children as they age and move through different services
  • Referrals for specialist services should happen more smoothly

Services will be redesigned to make them better for families

  • Information about services will be easy to find, easy to use, and up-to-date
  • Families will have more opportunities to input into the design and delivery of services
  • Services will be designed with families in mind
